What’s New in DATASMART
Written by Long Trail Sustainability, Senior Consultant, Shelly Severinghaus
DATASMART LCI Package is a dataset we created for our North American SimaPro customers. This dataset was originally developed to create a North American focused dataset, based on a combination of US LCI v.1.60 and Ecoinvent v.2.2 data, modified specifically to be representative of U.S. operations. In an effort to continually provide more data, DATASMART has expanded to a larger dataset, covering more regions and industries, containing data developed by us and data submitted to us by companies and researchers. Submission into the database entails an extensive review of the data to ensure accuracy. This data includes data across many industries, including metals, agriculture, textiles, and more.
The latest update, released in December 2018 contains over 75 new processes, as well as 45 updated processes and one updated method. This update includes new Chinese data from our SimaPro Global Partner, Ecovane Environmental based in China. A big thanks to Bill Kung and his team! These data range from Chinese metals, bamboo, brick, ceramics, cement, float glass, plastics and more. In addition, the update includes new US carbon fiber data and an update to the hydropower and nuclear energy production processes to more accurately account for the water balance. Finally, we also updated the LTS Method, our custom impact assessment method containing commonly used endpoint and midpoint categories, to contain the latest ReCiPe midpoint water category.
