Application of LCA Certificate Program

To provide a foundational understanding of the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. Target audiences for this certificate include executives, corporate sustainability professionals, product managers, MBA students, undergraduate and graduate students in sustainability fields, among others.

LCAs helps evaluate where the majority of the environmental impacts are coming from in the life of products, identify which materials are environmentally preferable and how design changes impact products’ footprints. Participants will learn what an LCA is and what questions it can answer. Multiple case studies will be presented, with ample discussion and class exercises. The Certificate also includes hands-on exercises in the world’s leading LCA software, SimaPro, giving participants an important “behind the scenes” experience in what goes into building an LCA model. Additionally, participants will learn a framework for LCA reports while exploring the nuance of communicating LCA results with different audiences.
